The Shelf Audit Files No. 05 — The Sleepers

Most of this series is bad news: who got bought, who is not ours any more, whose formula changed the second the check cleared. 

This one is the good news. Six small, genuinely Black-owned hair brands still run by the women who started them — every one of them under $3 an ounce, and two of them at $2 or less. 

The surprise, which caught us too, is the money. Going small is not the expensive principled sacrifice we sometimes tell ourselves it is. It is usually the cheaper jar that also happens to keep the money home.
